Sustainability

Satyagraha House has been committed since its creation to minimising its environmental impact, being as autonomous as possible and ensuring better social justice for its employees. Thus, the house uses solar energy and only locally-produced quality food : vegetables from the vegetable garden and fruit in season , tea, coffee, dairy products from small companies in Johannesburg. It is forbidden to use processed products for cooking , chemicals and pesticides for cleaning the house and garden, and office equipment is second-hand.

Energy

Hidden on the roofs of the recent wing, solar panels ensure 100% of the needs of the house nine months of the year, and 50% during the Southern Winter. The management of lighting, heating, and household appliances has been completely revamped in a spirit of sobriety, depending on the season and the number of guests.

Commitments

Satyagraha House’s commitments , in keeping with Gandhi’s vows, have a doubly positive impact : they minimise its ecological footprint and its reputation is an inspiration to other tourism actors in South Africa.

The Team

Satyagraha House offers its employees unique conditions compared to South African practises : permanent employment, wages well above average of the industry , a retirement pension and attractive medical coverage for them and their families. This benevolence is inherent to the place and also benefits our guests.
